people not at the caern build....

Question:

We have several players who werent at the caern build that I am certain would have fought or been involved in the ritual at the very least (Yveey, Colin, Austin, Jack, many many others).

They weren't there due to ooc stuff. Which we dig. But it makes little or no IC sense for the battle brave Fianna Galliard to not be there to play his warpipes at the most significant event in Garou culture. The Cog Ahroun with a chip on his shoulder who looks for ways to prove his tribe battles wouldn't have missed it IC. ESPECIALLY since we jumped forward in time two weeks. It makes it seem like they had two weeks notice and they still didn't show, which is a huge mark against them.

So, what do we do? Do I think my buddy the Fianna Metis, who had no warning ooc when he would have had 2 weeks warning ic, just didn't deign to show? Or do we say that we shouldn't punish players for a surprise caern raise, and IRL concerns keeping them away from what became possibly the most significant evnt of their PC lives?

Or do we all sympathize OOC and call them cowards IC for something that they couldn't have helped and had no choice in?

We are open to any suggestions for how the missing folks could have participated.

However, keep in mind that the folks who were there put their lives on the line. It wouldn't be fair to allow folks to gain the glory without the risk. Therefore, anyone who wants to retcon that they were involved in some capacity must accept the possibility that they died in the fight.

I am all for Hatchet having been watching over/shepherding the Kinfolk. I don't like being punished for having obligations RL, but I also accept that not making it to game means you don't get to be the hero of the day.

Here's a thought:

A major offensive was launched from an unexpected direction. A group of Garou broke off to defend against it. Purely by coincidence, that group just happened to contain all of the "missing" Garou who would care to participate.

This would give you an opportunity to run the "other offensive" with them retroactively at the next session. That would both provide them with the opportunity for glory and for a horrible, agonizing death.

Win win!

The problem is, for me, that on Saturdays now I don't get out of work until 6. Even if I were to go straight to UB north I wouldn't get there until almost 7. So while I encourage you to do that, I may be in a can't-win situation, because delaying an important scene like that till 7 is untenable.

Well, we delayed raising a Caern 'til after 8...(ducks to avoid being beaten severely!)

I dont see any reason the group of Missing members cant even run there little fight on a temp board here on line just for them...

Just Remember the Galliard need your Name, Rank, Auspice and Tribe if you want a proper Rite for the Departed...

I would be up for running a scene next session or on the boards...

anything come of this? do we have an awesome story of people who fought?

So...part 2. Some people didn't show up for various reasons last session. There's supposed to be a renown hit for missing a moot, how should we handle this?

Its not good sportsmanship for us to penalize folks for missing session.

I assumed that much, what about to roleplay aspect? Are we assuming they were there and just really really quiet?

Clearly, your PC had business out of the area. That renown hit is specifically for folks who are around and willfully miss a moot.

Missing a moot should be suspiciously absent from the negative renown form

Penalizing a player for OOC-related absences is just shite. Things pop up in life that are way more important, and it behooves everyone to keep that in perspective when it comes to pointing fingers at missing peeps. I'm sure no one wants to suffer in-game consequences because they needed that extra shift at work, or a child is sick and needs their parent.

But I agree, if they're at-session and just fuck off to go dawdle somewhere else, and they've been told about an IC event, then yeah, that should incur the hairy eyeball.

What I love about this thread is that everyone agrees with everyone else, but read in isolation every post sounds like there's a big debate going on.

If you stop to think about it, they WERE penalized. No xp, no chance to GAIN renown. That's a pretty big hit. Slapping them with a renown LOSS on top of that would be gratuitous, I completely agree.
