Booming Howl - Part 2 Empty Booming Howl - Part 2

Booming Howl continues here.

What everyone is up to:

Adom, Works for Food, and Wishbone have shifted into the Umbra (this thread will be continued on the BoneGnawer boards, then move back here once resolved.) They will return with an anaestetic (sp) strong enough to work on a Crinos Garou.

Chases Cars has a sword(?) filling up his insides, and is pretty out of it. Lillian Mercy is trying to prep him for a shotgun surgery.

Brendan has just given blood, and stands guard alongside Sewer Pipe, who has been drafted into restraint duty.

Others are here, but seem uncertain what to do.

((OOC: Will wait a bit before posting, as Wishbone and Works were in the Umbra for a bit and others would have time to act before they return.))

After a time--not a long time, but it probably seems like forever given the circumstances--Wishbone shimmers into being from the Umbra, bearing a faintly-shimmering vial of liquid and an odd expression on his face. He carefully hands the vial to Lillian. <<If this doesn't make him sleep, nothing will,>> he says.

Adom does not return.

Lillian (you decide not to Mary, I'll edit this) gives the vial to the suffering Cars, who immediately seems to relax. His tense muscles go limp, and his breathing slows and slows and slows. After a few moments, his heart has slowed to about ten beats per minutes, and he takes a single slow breathe every ten seconds or so.

Very strong stuff indeed.

((Nope if I get something like that and can monitor it I will use it.))

*Lillian seems pleased at the response and makes sure everything she needs is near her. She does a quick prayer to the Lady for her support and will begin.*

To those with less than Medicine x2 :

Mercy hacks like a butcher through Car's flesh. blood sprays everywhere over the next few hours as she hacks through his muscles and bones, brutally smashing his ribcage like a overcooked lobster's shell, before finally pulling a long bloody short spear from his back. Blood and gore is everywhere, and it takes another few hours to shove all his pieces back into place. For those who have never seen surgery it's a gory and disgusting adventure.

To those with Medicine x2 or greater:

Mercy moves cautiously. After making a few exploratory incisions up and down Cars' back, she determines that the object is in one piece and stretches from its tip to a wooden butt that is pressed against Cars' clavicle. Having ascertained the general sense of the injury, Mercy makes a series of small incisions in Cars' adbomen to suction off several pints of blood that have pooled around his gut.

With the ground work complete, Mercy carefully makes a series of aggressive cuts through Cars' tissue, counting on his regenerative abilities to put him back together. The most difficult part of the operation is carefully removing and repairing the puncture wounds in Cars' liver and lungs. After the object is removed, Lillian carefully sews Cars up with a quick series of sutures, knowing that with the foreign object removed, Cars' regenerative abilities will take care of the rest; as long as he doesn't bleed out before that can happen.

To those with Investigation x2, or Medicine x2 or greater

There are no entry wounds, nor any of the tearing associated with the insertion of a large sharp object into the human body. The damn thing looks like it just appeared there and displaced the organs around it.

The bloody object lies on the floor.
The surgery is done.
Cars is still in a state of hibernation, but Lillian expects he will live.

The object is forty-eight inches long. It would need to be cleaned to make out the finer details, but it seems to be a short spear of some sort.

The blade is about nine inches long and is triangular, pointed, and double bladed. It must have a flange connecting it to the spear, no lashing is visible.

The rest of the object appears to be made of wood, inlaid with opals and quartz, and is intricately decorated. In stylized fashion it appears to depict a woman with her arms outstretched, a large waterfall opening up beneath her. It appears there may be another design on the opposite side, but it would have to be moved for this to be visible. At the hilt are carved runes which would need to be cleaned to be read.

Wishbone aids as he can with his healing gifts, but only as directed; summoning the spirit to bind Cars in sleep was his area of expertise, but surgery is Lillian's.

Once the surgery is done, he murmurs something in the language of spirits. For those who can understand it, he says, << My thanks for your aid, Brother. The promise will be kept. >>

With that said, he turns his EXTREMELY leery scrutiny to the spear. (And uses Sense Wyrm.)

He growls, a perplexed sound. "Makes no sense," he mutters in Garou. "It was growing in him. Torturing him. But...no smell of the Wyrm." He gazes at Cars with a hint of sadness. "Even now, Cars-Rhya still isn't totally free of the Wyrm's stink...but this thing that was inside him has none?"

He shakes his head and repeats, "It makes no sense. If this is not of the Wyrm, where did it come from? Why was it inside him?"

His eyes trace over the image. "The Maid..." Again, that look of perplexity. "But if it is of the Maid, why would it come to us this way?"

More muttering to himself, and then, "A Cleansing is needed. Of the spear, and of Cars-Rhya. If the spear is of Gaia, of the Maid, then a Cleansing will do no harm. If it is not..."

"Lillian, is Cars-Rhya strong enough?"

Simple. How else.... he was tortured for months... without respite. This isn't wyrm tainted. This is how he resisted? The strength of this helped him stay strong?

Wishbone ponders that. "How would it have been placed inside? And when, and why? The pack expected to have to fight in Zoar Valley. A weapon like this would have been at the ready, not concealed. And how is it that the...thing...did not sense it, and expel it from him? Many questions, few answers. A Cleansing is a start. If nothing else, it will let us read the runes."

Wishbone squints at the runes, and at the image on the other side. Human writing, he can't read...but Garou runes are another story.

On the reverse of the object, a Native American figure in traditional garb is seen wielding a similar weapon and is pushing a horrible creature up and away. The Native American is riddled with arrows and is on one knee.

The reverse side depicting the maid shows the action moving down and to the left, while the figure here is gesturing up and to the right, the two sides are clearly meant to mirror each other.

The writing on the pommel appears to be written in two languages. First, in Garou glyphs, the symbol for "Western Door" is impressed onto the side with the waterfall, while, " Alpha " is imprinted on the reverse. The writing below is in either ogham or some other rune set. But reading it, you immediately understand the words. (As does anyone looking at it)

On the Side of the Maid : " Until the World is Changed "
On the contra : " Remember Duty "

Wishbone still has that abstracted, thoughtful frown...well, as close to a "frown" as an Ahroun muzzle can get.

"Going to take a look at it in the Umbra," he says. "See if the spirit is awake."

He prepares to step sideways again.

Heralds the Dawn has become Brendan once more, who is muttering to himself, partly in disbelief, partly composing a tale. He looks around taking in all the details, before shaking himself out of it.

"I'll stay here with Sewer Pipe, then join the remainder of you"

[Sewer Pipe - The spear is damn near perfectly balanced, and has a surprising weight for a its size. You've seen similar in weapons with lead cores. ]
