Subject: [owbn-cam-ooc] "Dodge" Retests vs. ST Chops - OWBN Community Support
To: owbn-ooc@googlegroups.com, OWBN Council <owbn-council@mail.owbn.net>, owbn-st <owbn-st@owbn.net>, owbn-cam-ooc@yahoogroups.com
Good morning OWBN,
Please feel free to share this with other lists as well.
On
December 11th, just a few days shy of his first wedding anniversary,
one of the local gamers and STs, John Griffin, was struck in a head on
collision on his way to work. His injuries kept him in the ICU for a
week, and he wasn't released to home care until shortly before
Christmas. More information on the accident can be found here: http://www.ocala.com/article/20121211/ARTICLES/121219940
Griff
has a very long road ahead of him with regards to recovery, and during
that time, he will be out of work. He works as a school teacher in
Marion County, along with his wife, Lindsay.
John and Lindsay have been gaming in OWBN for many, many years, and John
has been an ST for the local Anarch game for several years as well. One
of John's most well known characters was the Reverend Dodge. As such,
and in the same light as the Batman and Sooper-Mad Retests, we've put
together the "Dodge Retest vs. ST chops" to raise some funds to assist
the Griffins as they work towards recovery.
The retests will be $5.00 for one retest, and all funds can be sent via Paypal to OWBN.Dodge.Retests@gmail.com Direct donations can also be sent there.
Any questions can be sent to that address as well.
If your game would like to participate, please contact me at either OWBN.Dodge.Retests@gmail.com or Linsey.Guertin@gmail.com to get the retests file for you to print up the item cards.

I would buy a couple retest for charity if they did this. I have done it before and would do it again.

Re: Can we has Charity Retests?
Okay. I like Charity. I like being nice to gamers in trouble. I like the good feeling it gives us all.
That said, I hate hate hate hate hate these things. I think they provide an unfair advantage to people who have money OOC. If we want to donate to a worthwhile charity, why do we need in-game bonuses for it? The charity is it's own reward.
I mean, it's one thing to give a small leg up to people who donate money. It is quite another to allow people to blow $200 and declare that an Archbishop loses a Monomacy Challenge. (Example from RbN.) When these things are unlimited, it gives an unfair advantage to those of us who can afford to throw that kind of money around to ensure that they win all their chops against STs. Giving that advantage to certain players really messes with the PvP aspect of the game. Even though the chops don't apply to challenges against other PCs, they do apply to things that prepare you for battle with other PCs, or give you advantages against them.
There, I am now officially the bad guy, but I've said my piece.

Wow. $200. I have a job at that is a bit much. I admit I have bought and used these in DJ but I have used them 95% of the time to aide group missions. I have even handed them off the other players at times.
Maybe they can set a monthly limit?

Re: Can we has Charity Retests?
John's specifically talking about me. To be fair, I mainly used them in ways that basically wasted them
Aka, Fighting Tzimisce who I know I couldn't beat.
I know that doesn't mean they wont effect the game, but given the power level of the game/games, it's nice to be able to buy a little insurance for a good cause.
But given the PvE nature of Garou, I figured they'd be more positive here than elsewhere.

Oh you mean you used them to not die so quickly with Lazlo? Haha. Poor Tzimisce was hungry...and you made him wait. hehe.

Re: Can we has Charity Retests?
Actually, I was talking about someone else. An unnamed person spent $200 in RbN then used all the retests to get the STs to declare his victory in a monomacy challenge against an NPC by fiat.

Re: Can we has Charity Retests?
In his defense, that NPC did need to GO, but the point remains that these sorts of things add an unfair element for those of us with money. One of the reasons I enjoy LARPing is to get away from Mundane life. I don't like it when OOC cash becomes a factor in the game.

Re: Can we has Charity Retests?
In the defense of these retests, I will say that costuming XP and Game Contribution(Read: FOOD for Gamers) also does the same thing, but I'm not arguing that it doesn't inflate the issue. I will say, I enjoy Freemium games, but I have more disposable income than some, so I'm biased. It's a good cause, and I get some fun out of it, between the two, I'm heavily in favor of it.

I'll chip in. I don't need retests. It's a good thing to do.

Re: Can we has Charity Retests?
In so much as I need to make a ruling on this, I heartily support these retests. It is a little way to get a little help against NPCs to help some really great people who really could use the little bit of help this provides.

Re: Can we has Charity Retests?
My own take on it: I ran something similar in DJ. People liked it. And the tests are only good against STs and NPCs. Besides it is absolutely for a good cause. All of us had things happen in life and we all need a little help some times. And if by offering a perk for helping someone gets that person more money, MORE POWER TO IT
