Buffalo by Gaslight - 1850's One Shot

Yeah, I've been threatening to put this together for years.  Finally had some time the last few weeks and have been toying with how it would work.  I think the story is pretty cool, the 1850's in local history are a red hot mess, and it seems like a good place to slap a little interlude of a game.  Long time OWBN players will get a kick out of seeing old NPCs in new lights, while newer folks will get a chance to dive into the train wreck that is WNY history.  No idea when I'll run it, but the fall seems like a good time.

 It'll look something like this:

Buffalo, 1850

The city is eighteen years old, a native son is President of the United States, and everyone is dying.  A Cholera epidemic threatens the very survival of the suddenly prosperous city. The Sabbat’s war for Buffalo begins while the Wendigo’s long struggle comes to a conclusion; what will the next decades hold for the Western Door? Let's take a fresh look at WNY... by gaslight.

The Characters:

The Camarilla Court
William Black Prince (Toreador)
- The first Camarilla Prince of Buffalo, Black was a one-armed Blacksmith and was embraced a hundred years earlier in Orleans.  A cold and humorless fellow, his intense loyalty and honor inspired trust in those beneath him.
Anton Sophy Sheriff (Ventrue)
- A young Ventrue of an unremarkable line.  Sophy has been encouraging the civilization of the Western Door as quickly as possible.  He is, to put it precisely, a creature of the cities.
Thalmarion Keeper of Elysium (Malkavian)
- A Malkavian Seer of indeterminate age.  Thalmarion just sort of showed up one day and started enforcing Black's will.  There's clearly something going on with this guy.
Samuel Wilkeson Seneschal(Toreador)
- Child of Black, the former mayor of Buffalo has been trying, with some difficulty, to continue to keep the Kine thinking he's dead.
The Cavalier Nosferatu
- As far as anybody can tell, he's the first and only Nosferatu in Buffalo.  Some say he's descended from a Grail Knight.  Or maybe he just really likes armor.

Indies
Simon A Caitiff
- An aloof young autarchis.  He keeps himself busy running a saloon and trading information.
Andro Ecco
An Asshole (Gangrel)

- Nominally a member of the Camarilla, the Gangrel rarely associates with their members.  He has a majority interest in the local rails and has become quite the business mogul.  Everyone loathes him.

The Sabbat - "The Wind of the West"
Red Jacket Ductus (Gangrel)
- The historical Red Jacket died twenty years ago.  Or so the history books tell us; the Ductus of the Winds would claim that he was embraced on his deathbed.  Either way, the leader of the local Sabbat is a compelling speaker and accomplished at conversion.
Kantemir
Priest (Ventrue)
- A young Ventrue Antitribu, Kantemir has recently escaped from the troubles in Czarist Russia.  After some time wandering, he has found a home in the Winds.
Johnny Grey
Brujah
- Along with his sister, J Grey is a deadly fighter, both Greys are nearly mad from serial diablorie.
Janny Grey
Brujah
- The two Greys escaped from a prison camp in the Caribbean a few decades ago.  They don't fight for an ideology so much as just for the sheer joy of it.
Frontos
Tremere
- A mad Tremere antitribu, Frontos is a skilled mage and delver into Things Man Was Not Meant to Know (tm)
The Monstrosity
Gargoyle
- Frontos' pet, the Gargoyle is actually treated quite well by his master, and the two have had a surprisingly good relationship.  The Monstrosity likes smashing things, but only as a hobby.

The Garou (Sept of Falling Waters)

Pack 1 La Boheme
Fred Griffin Fianna, Homid, Galliard, Athro
Nominal Alpha of Falling Waters, Griffin has found himself in charge of a Sept of upstarts.  An idealist, he had always wanted to share the Caern with the purelanders.  But the momentum of history is carries even good men into monsterous acts...
James Wilkinson Iron Rider, Homid, Ragabash,Adren
He doesn't know his brother is a Vampire.  He doesn't know he's under a curse.  He does know that something is very very wrong with him, but he always seems to get distracted when it occurs to him...
Calvert Vaux
Iron Rider, Homid, Theurge, Adren
In Buffalo for a time before he and Olmstead depart for Britain, Vaux is a young architect with a dark secret.
Frederick Law Olmsted Iron Rider, Kinfolk

Thirty years from now, Olmsted will design the modern Caern of Falling Waters, but now, in his twenties, he's just an idealistic young Kinfolk, dead set on changing the world and harnessing the powerful wilds of the New World.

Pack 2 Thundersnow
The Old Wolf Wendigo, Lupus, Ahroun,Elder.
- The last Wendigo Alpha of Falling Waters, the Old Wolf is a patchwork of battle scars and rage.  A shadow of the Garou he was in his younger days, the Alpha in Exile still walks the Western Door, dreaming of taking back his stolen home.
Hirim Pratt Uktena, Homid, Theurge, Adren
- Pratt missed most of the fighting over Falling Waters in the previous decades by hiding and passing for human.  Now in his later years, he stays loyal to the Old Wolf, mostly to sooth his own guilty conscience.
Unique Outlaw Wendigo, Metis, Galliard, Athro
- Young and idealistic, Outlaw was the last Wendigo to be born in Falling Waters.  He is young and idealistic as Pratt is old and bitter.

The Triad
Broken Sword A Gangrel
- The self proclaimed guardian of the Western Door.  The growing population of supernaturals in the region worries him, though the sudden and shocking growth of the kine population worries him even more.
High Hat A Giant
- The old sorcerer always has his own angle.  We'll leave it at that for now.
Memory A Gahruhl
- The eternal witness of the Western Door's history, the immortal bear-man continues his watch in these years.  But an old promise may force him to act...

Well, heck: I even have period-appropriate costuming.

Absolutely not!  It'd be a fifth weekend or minicon thing.
